The Caterham Academy is in it's 26th year and and now with over 1000 drivers taking part, it’s considered one of Europe's most successful novice driver series - and it's probably the most affordable, proper racing, money can buy. Paul Woodman, the 2021 Media driver, takes a deep dive into the Academy car and everything you Everything you need to know about competing in the Academy Racing Series! It all started in 1957, with English automotive design engineer and inventor, Colin Chapman, when he built a lively little two-seater sports car. He wanted owners to be able to experience the pride of building their own car and then take it on track - and came up with the mantra “Simplify, then add lightness” and the Seven was born. Over sixty years later, Caterham still adheres to the original philosophy and turns out variants of the Seven with a line-up of models that range in power from 127hp to 314hp, with each car weighing just over 500kg. The Academy car has a tuned Ford Sigma, 1600cc, 4 cylinder, naturally aspirated engine, with a maximum power output of 127hp @ 6,800, with 150nM of torque and weighs around 550kgs.
